SK hynix Debuts Silicon Valley Ventures Arm to Target AI Ecosystem

Silicon Valley venture capitalists and startup founders gathered in California this week for the inaugural SK hynix Ventures Day, marking the official launch of the semiconductor giant’s new corporate venture capital brand designed to pivot the company from a hardware supplier into a central architect of global AI infrastructure.

CEO Kwak Noh-Jung led the executive team at the event, outlining a strategy that moves beyond the firm’s traditional focus on semiconductor tech sensing. Since 2015, the company has operated an internal CVC unit, yielding returns of over twice its cumulative investment while securing supply chain partnerships in the U.S., China, Israel, and Japan. This new initiative signals an evolution toward active ecosystem leadership rather than passive observation.

SK hynix Ventures will aggressively target startups operating in AI computing, data center architecture, system software, and optical interconnects. By fostering collaborative innovation and joint proof-of-concept projects, the company aims to address the power and performance bottlenecks inherent in modern AI models. Kwak emphasized that future competitiveness in the sector will rely on collective value creation, positioning the firm as a strategic partner capable of co-designing the next generation of AI infrastructure with its portfolio companies.
