McDonald’s Joins Dividend Kings After 50 Years of Payout Hikes

Fifty years of unbroken growth has propelled McDonald’s into the elite Dividend Kings index. The Chicago-based fast-food giant announced a quarterly dividend of $1.93 per share—a 4% increase—marking five consecutive decades of rising payouts that underscore the company’s long-term financial stability and disciplined capital allocation strategy.

The new dividend, payable on December 15 to shareholders of record by December 1, brings the company’s annual payout to $7.72 per share. This milestone places McDonald’s among fewer than 60 U.S. public companies that have sustained annual dividend growth for at least half a century. Ian Borden, the company’s Global Chief Financial Officer, attributed the achievement to decades of financial rigor and the collective efforts of owner-operators, suppliers, and crew members worldwide.

Looking ahead, the company plans to outline its next stage of expansion at its Investor Day on September 23, 2026. Management continues to prioritize a three-pronged capital strategy: reinvesting in technology and business growth, maintaining consistent dividend payments, and utilizing remaining free cash flow for share repurchases. With over 45,000 locations across more than 100 countries, the firm remains focused on balancing global scale with the resiliency of its franchise-heavy business model.
