Finch Launches AI Platform to Combat Insurance Claim Asymmetry

Property claims often span thousands of documents, leaving policyholders at a disadvantage against large carriers with superior data resources. Nashville-based startup Finch is attempting to bridge this gap with a new intelligence platform that automatically aggregates claim histories, emails, and estimates to expose overlooked costs and inconsistencies.

The insurance industry currently faces its longest claim resolution timelines since 2008, with final payments taking over 44 days on average. This complexity often obscures critical details, as documentation piles up across disjointed communication channels. By connecting directly to a firm's inbox, Finch builds a continuously updated record that cross-references estimates against historical data to identify missing line items or repair costs.

Thomas McLaughlin, founder and CEO of Finch, argues that the industry suffers from information asymmetry rather than a data shortage. The platform aims to move beyond simple summarization by reasoning across the entire lifecycle of a claim. In early analysis of 15,000 property claims, the tool identified an average 50% discrepancy between carrier estimates and those prepared by public adjusters, uncovering over $6 million in omitted repair costs.

Scaling Connected Intelligence

Finch has secured $4.5 million in funding from investors including Aglaé Ventures, Company Ventures, and Veridical Ventures. The platform is now available to public adjusting firms, providing them with an intelligence layer that structures fragmented data into searchable, evidence-backed insights. By organizing this information, the company intends to provide the reliable data foundation necessary for AI to interpret claims in their complete context.
