Tyler Cameron Finds His Rhythm on Dancing With the Stars

Years after Andrea Cameron encouraged her son to pursue reality television, Tyler Cameron is stepping onto the ballroom floor to honor her memory. The former Bachelorette star views his current run on Dancing With the Stars as the ultimate tribute to the mother who pushed him to take risks.

Andrea Cameron, who died in 2020 at age 55 following a brain aneurysm, remains the driving force behind the reality star’s career choices. Long before he debuted his tango on the ballroom stage, she had urged him to audition for television roles and embrace the spotlight. Cameron credits her with the confidence to transition from his time on The Bachelorette to competitive dance, noting that his mother would have been his most enthusiastic spectator.

His path to the ballroom was unconventional. During his time at Wake Forest University, Cameron took ballet and jazz classes to bolster his academic standing. While he jokingly admits his early pirouettes were far from graceful, the experience sparked a connection to movement that he later revisited during the series The Real Dirty Dancing. However, he describes his current commitment as an entirely different intensity, labeling his previous televised dance work a mere fraction of the rigor required for the current competition.

Performing alongside professional partner Sharna Burgess, Cameron earned 17 points out of 30 for his premiere tango. Despite the pressure of the live show and the ongoing debate regarding contestants with past dance experience, he remains focused on the emotional stakes. For Cameron, the competition is an extension of the support system his mother provided, serving as a platform to honor her legacy while supporting his family.
