Piramal Pharma to Power Morpeth Facility With 4.3 MWp Solar Array

Piramal Pharma Solutions is moving to decarbonize its Morpeth, UK site by installing a 4.3 MWp ground-mounted solar power plant. The initiative, slated for operational launch in early 2027, aims to meet roughly 22% of the facility's annual electricity demand through a behind-the-meter renewable energy agreement.

Spanning 16 acres, the installation will feature approximately 6,200 solar panels. The project is expected to generate 3,950 MWh of electricity annually, which is equivalent to the consumption of 1,460 UK households. Developed in partnership with Alight UK BTM1 Limited under a power purchase agreement, the site will avoid an estimated 20,000 tCO₂e over the next 25 years.

Frank Bugg, Senior Vice President of UK & Europe Operations, stated that the move reflects the company's broader effort to weave sustainability into its global manufacturing network. Rob Stait, Managing Director of Behind the Meter at Alight, noted that the project underscores how onsite solar can simultaneously boost energy resilience and reduce long-term operational costs. This infrastructure investment supports Piramal Pharma Limited’s target to slash Scope 1 and Scope 2 greenhouse gas emissions by 42% by fiscal year 2030.
