Menopause Becomes Central to Aesthetic Consultations

Forty-five percent of facial plastic surgeons report that female patients are increasingly citing menopause as a primary driver for seeking cosmetic procedures. This surge, up from 28% in 2024, reflects a broader cultural shift where women are openly connecting hormonal transitions to visible changes in skin elasticity, volume, and texture.

The American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (AAFPRS) notes that the conversation in consultation rooms is evolving as patients seek to understand how midlife hormonal shifts influence facial aging. Dr. Anthony Brissett, president of the organization, emphasizes that these biological changes—ranging from decreased collagen production to shifts in skin hydration—often lead to a perception that facial contours are altering more rapidly than expected.

Surgeons are now prioritizing a more nuanced approach, moving away from standardized treatments toward individualized plans that account for a patient’s specific stage in the menopause transition. Because no two individuals experience these physiological shifts identically, practitioners argue that aesthetic goals must be addressed within the context of a patient's overall health. The AAFPRS advises women to consult with board-certified specialists to navigate these changes, while maintaining that aesthetic adjustments should remain secondary to broader conversations with primary healthcare providers regarding systemic menopausal symptoms.
