Ricardo Kennedy Launches Privacy Shield Initiative for Vehicle Dwellers

When a car becomes a bedroom, a kitchen, and a sanctuary, the windshield transforms from a window into a point of profound vulnerability. Ricardo Kennedy, a Hollywood grip who experienced vehicle homelessness firsthand, is now launching a national initiative to provide privacy shields to those living in their cars.

The program, titled Dwell Behind the Shield, offers sponsor-funded Vehicle Dash Privacy Shields to individuals registered with qualifying Safe Parking organizations. Kennedy developed the patent-pending barrier after the 2023 Hollywood strikes left him without a home. Unlike standard window covers, the device blocks outside views while utilizing integrated mesh that allows occupants to maintain visibility of their surroundings.

The initiative addresses a critical gap in the support structures available to the unhoused. According to the RAND Corporation’s LA LEADS survey, 11% of unsheltered individuals in key Los Angeles districts rely on vehicles for housing, with privacy consistently ranking as a major factor in how they evaluate safety. While Parked Innovations has reached out to over 26 organizations nationwide, participants can apply for the shields directly through the company’s website without needing their specific program to formally partner with the initiative.

Starting in Los Angeles, the project will expand across California and into broader national markets. Corporate sponsorship enrollment for the program is scheduled to open October 1, 2026, with product availability subject to ongoing verification of eligibility and funding levels.
