Dr. Russell Greenfield to Lead SCU’s New Whole Health Institute

The Institute launches as the healthcare sector grapples with escalating costs and systemic fragmentation. By integrating research, clinical training, and policy advocacy, the program seeks to formalize "Whole Health"—a model that addresses the physical, emotional, and social dimensions of patient wellbeing. SCU President John Scaringe emphasized that the initiative is designed to bypass incremental changes in favor of a total transformation of the current clinical landscape.

Greenfield joins the university following a tenure as a senior physician consultant for the Veterans Health Administration, where he played a key role in scaling Whole Health principles across federal facilities. His background includes leadership positions at Novant Health and Atrium Health, as well as academic roles at the University of North Carolina and the University of Arizona. At SCU, he will oversee the development of national standards, research expansion, and the cultivation of partnerships intended to transition integrative care from a niche practice to the standard of clinical operation.
