MediaTek Debuts 2nm Dimensity 9600 Pro Chipset

MediaTek has officially pivoted to the 2nm process node with the launch of the Dimensity 9600 Pro, a flagship mobile SoC designed to handle complex agentic AI tasks. By integrating a specialized AI engine and a new CPU architecture, the company claims a 61% reduction in multi-core power consumption.

The new silicon utilizes a 2+3+3 All Big Core design, featuring two C2-Ultra cores hitting clock speeds of 4.55GHz. This structural overhaul allows for a 17% increase in single-core performance compared to previous generations. The chip is built specifically to support on-device large language models of up to 30B parameters, leveraging a dual-NPU architecture that facilitates proactive, personalized digital assistance without relying on cloud-based processing.

Gaming and imaging capabilities also receive a significant boost through the G2-Ultra NX GPU and Imagiq 1290 ISP. These components enable console-grade gaming at 185fps and advanced computational photography, including 4K240 slow-motion recording. To broaden the reach of this hardware, MediaTek is simultaneously rolling out the Dimensity 9600M, a variant aimed at bringing similar high-performance AI and gaming features to a wider range of devices. The first smartphones equipped with these chipsets are expected to reach the market before the end of the year.
