M&S expands surplus food partnership with Too Good To Go

Following a successful trial across select UK locations, Marks & Spencer is rolling out its partnership with the Too Good To Go mobile app to more than 350 food stores, aiming to curb wastage by offering surplus bakery goods to customers at a significant discount.

The initiative allows shoppers to purchase 'Surprise Bags' containing items like pastries, cookies, and bread baked in-store. Each bag includes three to four products, valued at a minimum of £10.20, for a flat price of £3.80. Customers can reserve these through the app and collect them between Monday and Saturday, during the final hour before their local branch closes.

This move aligns with M&S's broader Plan A sustainability strategy, which targets a 50% reduction in food waste by 2030. Lucinda Langton, Head of Sustainability at M&S Food, noted that the trial period yielded an outstanding response, confirming the viability of the model. Chelsea Kerr, Managing Director at Too Good To Go UK & Ireland, added that the partnership simplifies the process for both businesses and consumers to divert edible food from landfills.
