Ryan Michel to Succeed John Ammendola as CEO of Grange Insurance

After twelve years at the helm of Columbus-based Grange Insurance, CEO John Ammendola will step down on March 1, 2027. His successor, Ryan Michel, currently serves as the company’s Chief P&C Officer and brings two decades of industry expertise to the leadership transition.

Ammendola concludes a forty-year career in the property and casualty insurance sector, sixteen of which were spent at Grange. During his tenure, the company navigated the economic volatility of the global pandemic and record inflation while maintaining an A.M. Best "A" rating. Marnette Perry, chair of the Grange Mutual Holding Company board, credited Ammendola with fostering an inclusive corporate culture alongside consistent profitability and business diversification.

Michel, who joined Grange two years ago, previously led Allstate Canada as President and CEO, where he oversaw a 50 percent increase in premiums to over $2.4 billion. His background includes executive roles at Trusted Resource Underwriters and an extensive tenure at Allstate Insurance. A fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society and a member of the American Academy of Actuaries, Michel holds an MBA from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business. The board expects his strategic focus on profitable growth and agent partnerships to provide continuity for the insurer, which manages $3.4 billion in assets across 13 states.
