METLEN and PETRONAS Seal Long-Term LNG Supply Deal for Greece

METLEN and PETRONAS have finalized a five-year supply agreement to deliver liquefied natural gas to Greece, a move designed to bolster energy security across Southeast Europe. Starting in 2027, the deal will see PETCO Trading (UK) Limited provide six LNG cargoes annually from the Malaysian energy giant’s Atlantic portfolio.

The contract accounts for approximately 0.6 billion cubic meters per annum, reinforcing Greece’s emerging role as a regional energy hub. For the Athens-based METLEN, the partnership serves as a core component of its utility strategy to diversify procurement sources and increase operational flexibility. By tapping into PETRONAS’ global infrastructure, the company aims to stabilize energy supplies for its customers while insulating the broader regional market against supply volatility.

Panayotis Kanellopoulos, Chief Executive Director of International Energy Supply & Trading at METLEN, described the deal as a vital step in expanding international synergies. Datuk Adif Zulkifli, Executive Vice President and CEO of Gas & Maritime at PETRONAS, emphasized that the collaboration highlights the company’s focus on leveraging its trading capabilities to meet evolving energy transition priorities in Europe and the Mediterranean. Both firms view this agreement as a foundation for future industrial cooperation.
