The Hemsworth location now operates six electric vans, contributing to a broader corporate strategy that has seen the retailer double its electric fleet size over the past year. Currently, more than 30% of Tesco's home delivery vehicles are powered by electricity, a transition that began in Greater London in 2020. The company remains committed to achieving a fully electric UK home delivery fleet by the end of 2030, with a wider goal of net-zero emissions across all operations by 2035.
Nick Potter, Transport Distribution Director at Tesco, noted that each new electric vehicle serves to improve local air quality while reducing the carbon footprint of the company's delivery network. This latest addition follows the deployment of the 1,000th electric unit in Cardiff, which entered service in October 2025. By utilizing renewable electricity to power these vehicles, the retailer has successfully offset millions of miles previously driven by diesel engines.
