Pink Addresses Backlash Over Macklemore Pro-Palestine Performance

Following a wave of public criticism, singer Pink has broken her silence on the controversy surrounding rapper Macklemore’s recent pro-Palestinian set at MetLife Stadium. The artist clarified that her viral social media repost was not a formal statement, but rather a reaction to feeling alarmed by the rapper's stage remarks.

The tension stems from Macklemore’s opening set during Ed Sheeran’s tour, where the rapper chanted “Free Palestine” and performed his track “Hind’s Hall” against a backdrop of Gaza imagery. Pink, who is Jewish, reshared a post from an advocacy group labeling the performance as anti-Israel propaganda, an action that triggered widespread backlash and calls for a boycott. In an Instagram post, the 47-year-old singer admitted that while she often uses memes as a coping mechanism, her reposting was not intended to be a definitive statement on the conflict.

Pink further detailed that her unease with Macklemore dates back to a 2014 incident where the rapper wore a costume that she interpreted as antisemitic. She emphasized that her recent frustration was specifically sparked by Macklemore’s onstage assertion that his criticism of Israel was not directed at Jewish concertgoers. “You don’t get to decide that for us,” she wrote, noting that as a Jewish mother, she felt compelled to express that his comments were frightening. While she reiterated her support for innocent civilians on both sides and her long-standing work as a UNICEF ambassador, she maintained her stance that Hamas is a terrorist organization, a position that continues to draw polarized reactions from her audience.
