Florida International University Breaks Into TIME's Top 25 Public Schools

Florida International University has secured the No. 23 spot among public universities in the inaugural TIME America’s Best Colleges 2026-2027 rankings. The list, developed with Statista, shifts the focus from institutional prestige toward tangible student outcomes, placing FIU at No. 62 overall across all rated national institutions.

The ranking methodology prioritizes long-term graduate success, with student outcomes—including earnings, graduation rates, and return on investment—accounting for 75% of a school’s total score. Researchers analyzed how effectively institutions boost graduate earnings relative to expectations and how they support students through to degree completion, adjusting for incoming student demographics.

FIU President Jeanette M. Nuñez credited the university's performance to a consistent focus on student success and faculty excellence. The remaining 25% of the evaluation weighed the learning environment, factoring in student-to-faculty ratios and institutional investment per student. This latest recognition joins a series of accolades for the Miami-based university, which has previously earned top marks for social and economic mobility from sources like U.S. News and World Report.
