Henrik Esbensen Steps Down as DreamStart Labs CEO

After a decade of steering DreamStart Labs from a startup concept to a global fintech platform, co-founder Henrik Esbensen has vacated his position as CEO. The transition, effective August 25, 2026, marks a pivotal shift for the San Diego-based company as it seeks to maintain its momentum in financial inclusion.

Since co-founding the firm in 2016 with Wes Wasson, Esbensen oversaw the development of key digital tools including DreamSave, DreamInsights, and DreamLink. Under his leadership, the organization expanded its reach to support 48,000 Savings Groups and collaborated with more than 80 institutional partners. Chairman Adrian Merryman credited Esbensen with building a foundation that provides underserved communities the visibility needed to access broader financial ecosystems.

Merryman will assume the role of Interim CEO to ensure operational continuity. Esbensen is scheduled to remain with the company as a CEO Advisor through September 30 to assist with the executive handoff. Despite the change in leadership, the company confirmed that its day-to-day services and product support for partners and users will proceed without interruption.
