Combs, 52, recently detailed her career shift on her podcast, The House of Halliwell. Beyond the demands of parenting, she pointed to a lack of compelling roles for women in her age demographic. According to the actress, the scripts currently landing on her desk fail to spark the creative interest necessary to pull her away from her family and her business, Cattle Point BBQ in Friday Harbor.

While she admits to missing the escapism of stepping into a character, she is currently content with her life in the Pacific Northwest alongside her husband, Mike Ryan. She has not, however, ruled out a return to the screen once her children are older and her schedule clears. Her last significant television role concluded in 2017 with the end of Pretty Little Liars, followed by only sporadic appearances in the years leading up to the global health crisis.

Her reflection on her career path follows a period of personal loss. Combs recently mourned the death of her longtime friend and former Charmed co-star Shannen Doherty, who passed away in July 2024 at age 53. Doherty had recorded five episodes for Combs’ podcast prior to her death, which the production team chose to release as a tribute to her legacy. Combs described the late actress as her "better half of 31 years," noting that while she navigates the grief of losing her sister-in-arms, she remains focused on honoring the bond they shared.
