NYU Langone Health Overhauls Cardiovascular Leadership Team

NYU Langone Health has appointed Dr. Sunil Rao to lead its Leon H. Charney Division of Cardiology, effective September 1. He succeeds Dr. Glenn I. Fishman, who steps down after a 25-year tenure, while Dr. Susheel K. Kodali joins the institution to helm the interventional cardiology and catheterization programs.

Dr. Rao, a clinician-investigator known for pioneering radial artery access techniques, will oversee a division currently ranked first nationally by U.S. News & World Report. Since joining the health system in 2022, he has focused on expanding interventional capacity, managing a network that performs over 17,000 procedures annually. His transition marks a shift in leadership for the program, which under Dr. Fishman grew to include 300 faculty members and secured over $800 million in research funding.

Dr. Kodali arrives from NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia University Irving Medical Center to lead the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory. A prominent researcher in structural heart disease, he is credited with advancing transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) therapies. His appointment is intended to strengthen the system's focus on minimally invasive heart valve treatments. Dr. Fishman will remain with the faculty, shifting his focus toward ongoing research initiatives and the mentorship of future cardiovascular specialists.
