Dr. Lungren’s career bridges academic research and industrial application. At Stanford, he co-founded the Center for Artificial Intelligence in Medicine & Imaging and established a dedicated clinical AI research program. His tenure at Microsoft included roles as Chief Scientific Officer for Health & Life Sciences and AI Technical Advisor, where he focused on moving generative AI and agentic workflows from research environments into production.
Eon CEO Akrum Alzubaidi noted that Lungren’s ability to navigate the transition between clinical medicine and applied technology is critical as the company scales. Currently, Eon’s platform has processed over 500 million radiology reports across 75 health systems, targeting the identification of incidental findings to improve longitudinal patient surveillance. Lungren, who maintains a part-time interventional radiology practice at UCSF, will focus on guiding the company’s efforts to integrate AI into routine clinical practice, ensuring that technological deployment results in tangible improvements to patient outcomes and hospital financial performance.
