Far-Right Rally Targets Dearborn as Leaders Denounce Anti-Muslim Hate

Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib, who represents the district, warned that the city of 105,000 is being specifically targeted by white supremacists and Christian nationalists. During the event, footage captured attendees marching aggressively on the City Hall complex, with some individuals displaying Nazi imagery. The rally follows a string of nationwide incidents involving anti-Muslim hostility, including a fatal shooting in San Diego and a hate-crime stabbing in Utah.

The Instigators and Local Response

The march was organized by Jake Lang—a participant in the 2021 Capitol riot previously pardoned by Donald Trump—and Detroit pastor Lorenzo Sewell. Before being forcibly removed from a City Council meeting, Lang delivered a lengthy, vitriolic tirade against Muslim residents, citing unfounded conspiracy theories and calling for their mass removal. In response, Dearborn Mayor Abdullah Hammoud and Police Chief Issa Shahin held a joint press conference with Christian clergy to reject the group's rhetoric. Governor Gretchen Whitmer and Senator Elissa Slotkin also issued statements urging residents to remain calm and avoid engaging with the agitators, emphasizing that the rally’s primary goal is to provoke conflict rather than express legitimate grievance.
