Hansen expressed his reservations during a recent appearance on the Serialously podcast. Although he acknowledged Pattinson’s acting credentials, he revealed he had previously envisioned a different direction for a film about his career. Years ago, Hansen had drafted a script with Denis Leary in mind to portray him, citing the actor’s demeanor as a better fit for the material.
Beyond the casting, Hansen remains wary of the film's production timeline. He noted that filmmakers approached him about potential involvement only after the project was effectively finished, leaving him with little influence over the narrative. Having seen only the teaser trailer, the former To Catch a Predator host described the footage as highly dramatic. He has been invited to a private screening and plans to reserve his final judgment until after viewing the full feature, which is set for a September 25 release.
Directed by Lance Oppenheim, the film revisits the high-stakes era of Hansen’s sting operations, a period that remains defined by both significant public interest and intense ethical controversy. For his part, Hansen remains focused on his current work, remarking that he has little time to dwell on the portrayal of a version of himself he did not help create.
