Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige previously joked that it had become a recurring ritual for the Star Wars alum to turn down MCU roles, but Driver noted that the timing and the character finally aligned. During his announcement, the actor teased the audience by jokingly suggesting he might play Magneto before clarifying his true role as Nathaniel Essex, the geneticist better known as Mister Sinister.
Driver joins an expansive ensemble cast for the reboot, which includes Sadie Sink as Jean Grey, Kit Connor as Cyclops, Samara Weaving as Emma Frost, Inde Navarrette as Rogue, Maya Boyd as Storm, and Christopher Abbott as Professor X. The casting confirms months of online speculation that had linked the actor to the villainous role. The X-Men reboot is currently scheduled for a theatrical release on May 5, 2028.
