The scale of China's retail engine is now rivaling the entire US e-commerce market, forcing a shift in strategy for international brands. According to NIQ’s report, The Commerce Revolution: Where East Meets West, Asia Pacific has captured 55% of global e-commerce revenue, driven largely by the 59% of consumers who now prefer purchasing directly through social platforms. This transition mandates a more integrated approach, where businesses must harmonize consumer intelligence across all channels rather than treating digital and physical storefronts as distinct entities.
Rachel White, President of Asia Pacific at NIQ, emphasizes that the next generation of retail will belong to those who can connect the dots between discovery, evaluation, and final purchase. As these high-speed, AI-powered models migrate from China to Western markets, brands are increasingly looking to replicate the agility that has defined the Chinese market. This ongoing transformation in retail technology will serve as a central theme for the 2026 RTIH Innovation Awards, which are currently accepting entries to highlight the omnichannel developments shaping the industry's future.
