Envision and Sasol Partner on South African Green Hydrogen Study

South Africa’s Minister of Electricity and Energy, Dr. Kgosientsho Ramokgopa, visited Envision’s Chifeng Net Zero Industrial Park in Inner Mongolia this week to oversee a new collaboration. Envision Energy and Sasol have launched a joint design study to integrate renewable power and electrolyzer systems at Sasol’s Sasolburg facility.

The project focuses on building a green hydrogen system capable of supporting low-carbon fuels, including eMethanol and sustainable aviation fuel. By combining Envision’s expertise in AI-enabled energy management and battery storage with Sasol’s industrial infrastructure, the study aims to optimize production based on real-time market conditions and energy availability.

Expected to conclude by the end of this year, the research will provide the technical and commercial data necessary for potential future investment. Sasol is currently reviewing how these integrated technologies align with its broader energy transition strategy. Kane Xu, Senior Vice President at Envision, emphasized that the collaboration seeks to make green hydrogen a cost-effective solution for hard-to-abate industries, while Sasol’s Danie Cronje noted the importance of leveraging global expertise to secure the company’s future chemical value chains.
