The actor contends that these documents could undermine the narrative that Jolie was driven to sell her interest in the winery by financial necessity following their 2016 separation.

Jolie’s representatives have resisted the discovery request, characterizing it as an invasive overreach. Her legal team maintains that while she sought to disentangle her finances from her ex-husband, this desire for independence did not equate to financial hardship. Her lawyers argue that Pitt is relying on a fabricated theory to justify digging into her private records, noting that she has already provided substantial tax and profit information during previous divorce proceedings concluded in 2024.

At the center of the conflict is the 2022 sale of Jolie’s stake in Nouvel, the company holding her interest in the $28.4 million estate in Correns, France. Pitt claims the transaction violated an informal agreement requiring mutual consent before selling any ownership stake. He has specifically challenged the involvement of Tenute del Mondo, a subsidiary of Stoli Group, labeling the new business partners hostile. Jolie continues to assert her legal right to dispose of her property as she sees fit, framing the ongoing litigation as an attempt by Pitt to maintain control over her long after their marriage ended.
