The text, titled "What Happened in 2024," claims that a generation of political operatives has become insulated from the public by their own financial success. It argues that this elite layer of the party maintains an inflexible system that resists change, leaving many activists frustrated by an inability to influence decision-making. Democratic strategist Paul Rivera asserts he delivered this document to DNC Chair Ken Martin in a three-ring binder earlier this year, suggesting a deliberate choice to exclude it from the official report released in May.
Martin rejects this account entirely, labeling the claim of suppression as absurd. He maintains that the document never reached his desk and that he would have welcomed its inclusion, citing his own public commitment to reforming the party's reliance on high-priced consultants. While the DNC's final report originally listed a "What Happened" section as "pending" due to missing author input, the emergence of this chapter highlights a deepening rift within the party over whether its current leadership is capable of addressing the needs of its base.
