Cboe Finalizes Sale of Australian Exchange to TMX Group

Cboe Global Markets has officially divested its Australian operations to TMX Group, marking a significant step in a broader corporate restructuring. The deal, which rebrands the entity as TMX Australia Exchange, allows the Chicago-based firm to consolidate its resources and focus on core equity and index derivatives.

The divestiture follows a strategic pivot intended to sharpen the firm’s focus on high-growth opportunities. Prashant Bhatia, EVP of Enterprise Strategy and Corporate Development at Cboe, noted that the move aligns the company’s capital with its long-term objectives while maintaining a footprint in the Asia-Pacific region. Despite the sale, the firm intends to continue providing U.S. equities, derivatives, and market data services to its regional client base.

This transaction is the first of two planned exits for Cboe in the region. The sale of Cboe Canada to TMX Group, originally announced in April, remains pending. That deal is currently moving through customary closing conditions and awaits final local regulatory approvals.
