King Seiko Marks a Decade of Jazz Mentorship at Dizzy’s Club

Under the neon lights of Dizzy’s Club at Jazz at Lincoln Center, Seiko bridged the worlds of horology and improvisation this week. The event marked the 10th anniversary of the Seiko Summer Jazz Camp, an initiative that has mentored over 300 young musicians since its inception in 2016.

The evening served as a dual celebration: honoring the youth education program and showcasing the evolution of the King Seiko watch collection. Shuji Takahashi, Director, President, and Group COO of Seiko Group Corporation, hosted the event, drawing parallels between the precision of mechanical watchmaking and the rhythmic complexity of jazz. Takahashi noted that the company views music as the art of time, a philosophy that has anchored their support for the camp’s instructors and students for ten years.

Watch journalist Mark Bernardo provided historical context, tracing the line from the original 1961 King Seiko launch through iconic models like the 1965 KSK and the 1969 45KCM. These timepieces, once defined by their technical rigor, were presented in their modern iterations, which aim to balance legacy aesthetics with contemporary mechanical movements. The showcase underscored the brand's ongoing effort to position King Seiko as a bridge between historical craftsmanship and modern design, reinforcing its status as a cornerstone of the company’s mechanical portfolio.
