Platinum Equity Acquires Stake in Lighting Manufacturer LMPG

Montreal-based lighting specialist LMPG has secured a major investment from private equity firm Platinum Equity. While financial terms remain undisclosed, founder François-Xavier Souvay and CEO Peter Timotheatos are retaining significant equity stakes, signaling a strategic transition to support the company’s expansion across North American infrastructure markets.

The deal involves Platinum Equity purchasing outstanding shares from existing institutional investors. LMPG, which operates a portfolio of seven distinct brands including Lumenpulse and Fluxwerx, specializes in customized, high-performance lighting solutions for healthcare, urban infrastructure, and commercial building sectors. Since its founding in 2006, the company has established a footprint as a scaled player in a fragmented industry.

Platinum Equity Co-President Jacob Kotzubei noted that the firm intends to leverage its operational toolkit to drive growth through new product development and potential acquisitions. For Platinum Equity, this transaction marks its second major move in Quebec within two years. Co-President Louis Samson emphasized that the investment aligns with the firm’s broader strategy of partnering with established Canadian entrepreneurs to scale operations for international markets.

Under the new ownership structure, CEO Peter Timotheatos will maintain his leadership role, focusing on deepening the firm’s ties with its existing network of architects, engineers, and agent partners. The partnership aims to capitalize on long-term demand trends within the commercial construction sector, with both parties indicating that the focus will remain on maintaining the company’s specialized engineering standards while pursuing aggressive organic growth.
