XCMG Targets Mining Decarbonization Through Digital and Local Strategy

At the Boao Forum for Asia conference in Perth, XCMG Group Chairman Yang Dongsheng identified long-term R&D, end-to-end digital transformation, and deep localization as the essential pillars for greening the global mining sector. The July 27 event gathered 200 industry leaders to address the integration of AI and sustainable industrial growth.

Yang emphasized that the transition to cleaner mining relies on translating technological innovation into tangible operational momentum. By deploying a comprehensive suite of new energy machinery, XCMG aims to provide the digital and technical infrastructure required for Australia’s energy shift. The group views artificial intelligence as the primary engine for autonomous operations, which directly enables mining firms to optimize energy consumption and slash carbon emissions.

The strategic focus follows XCMG’s significant deal with Fortescue, which stands as China’s largest export order for electric mining equipment to date. These machines are scheduled for deployment in Western Australia’s Pilbara region, aligning with Fortescue’s 2030 target for zero-emissions operations. By pairing this hardware with localized expertise and smart mining applications, the company intends to reshape its value chain, moving away from carbon-intensive processes toward a fully integrated, lower-carbon future.
