Former M&S CTO Josie Smith joins Redcentric as Chief Customer Officer

Josie Smith has been appointed Chief Customer Officer at managed service provider Redcentric, marking her return to the industry following her departure from Marks and Spencer earlier this year. Her exit from the retailer followed a major cyber attack by the group Scattered Spider that severely disrupted online operations.

Smith spent just under two years as M&S’s Chief Technology Officer, a tenure that included navigating the retailer through the high-profile security breach. Her transition to Redcentric signals a pivot back to her core focus on technology transformation. She previously held senior roles at BT Group and Vodafone.

At M&S, Smith’s departure was part of a broader leadership shift in the technology department. Darren Gibson, formerly the fashion, home and beauty technology transformation director, has since taken over her responsibilities. This followed the exit of Rachel Higham, the company’s former Chief Digital and Technology Officer, who stepped back from her position four months prior. Reflecting on her time at the retailer, Smith noted the experience of leading teams through significant operational pressure, stating that her new role at Redcentric offers an opportunity to merge technology, service, and customer engagement to drive better business outcomes.
