The expansion reflects a strategic push by Uber to prioritize local preference, according to Hashim Amin, the company’s North American Head of Grocery and Retail. By onboarding chains that have maintained long-standing community ties, Uber seeks to align its digital service with the established shopping routines of regional customers. This integration provides grocers with expanded sales channels while offering consumers access to scheduled delivery and real-time tracking.
Across the Atlantic, Tesco is pursuing a similar digital strategy in the UK. The retailer plans to launch services on both Uber Eats and Deliveroo this August, supplementing its internal Whoosh delivery platform. The partnership will allow Tesco customers to leverage Clubcard benefits—including points and specialized pricing—while utilizing third-party delivery logistics to reach a broader segment of the population.
