Senator Murray Accuses ICE of Coercing Seattle Resident via Threats

Aguirre Esparza, who has no criminal record and is married to a U.S. citizen, was allegedly surrounded by ICE agents at an office in Tukwila. Murray described the encounter as physically aggressive, stating that agents pushed the resident and threatened him with violence to secure his signature on a departure form. The senator is now demanding the release of security footage from the holding room, asserting that such tactics undermine the fundamental right to due process.

Following the incident, Aguirre Esparza was transferred to a facility in Texas, further isolating him from his family and legal counsel. Murray has called on the Department of Homeland Security to return him to Washington state immediately. Aaron Reichlin-Melnick of the American Immigration Council noted that these allegations highlight a broader pattern where detained individuals are coerced into signing away their rights under the guise of voluntary removal, sometimes even having their hands forced by agents to sign documents they cannot read.
