Sports Betting Giants Pour Millions Into Midterm Elections

Sports gambling companies have emerged as a dominant force in the 2026 election cycle, funneling $72 million into political influence campaigns. This unprecedented spending spree positions the industry as the third-largest corporate donor, trailing only the technology and cryptocurrency sectors in a push to secure favorable state-level legislative outcomes.

The massive influx of capital is primarily routed through the super PAC Win For America, which distributes funds to the American Conservative Fund and American Future. DraftKings leads the industry with $34 million in contributions, followed by FanDuel at $27 million, with Fanatics and bet365 contributing $5.5 million each. This financial mobilization follows a broader trend of corporate spending that has reached $517 million this cycle, the highest level since the 2010 Citizens United ruling.

Industry efforts are concentrated on state-level battles where gambling regulations remain fluid. In Georgia, the industry spent over $12 million across 34 legislative races, successfully backing all but two of their preferred candidates during the primary. Similar efforts are underway in Pennsylvania, where companies are lobbying against proposed tax hikes on online sports betting. Critics, including Rep. Summer Lee (D-Pa.), contend that the saturation of election cycles by corporate interests like the Sports Betting Alliance threatens to turn democratic processes into auctions for industry profit.
