European Hyperscale Data Center Market Set to Hit $140 Billion by 2031

Driven by aggressive cloud migration and the integration of artificial intelligence, the European hyperscale data center market is forecast to reach $139.90 billion by 2031. Industry data indicates a 17.93% compound annual growth rate, as regional infrastructure expands to meet the demands of high-performance computing and complex digital workloads.

The sector saw $52.02 billion in investments during 2025, a figure expected to nearly triple over the next six years. This surge is fueled by global providers including AWS, Google, Microsoft, and Oracle, which are scaling their regional footprint to accommodate increasing enterprise cloud adoption. The United Kingdom currently leads the region, capturing roughly 20.85% of investment, with Germany, Sweden, and Spain also serving as primary hubs for development.

Technical requirements are shifting to support these high-density environments. Operators are moving toward liquid cooling technologies and lithium-ion battery systems to manage the heat and power loads generated by AI-ready infrastructure. While construction costs vary significantly across the continent—with Switzerland and Norway remaining among the most expensive locations—the push for scalable, high-bandwidth capacity remains uniform across the finance, healthcare, and manufacturing sectors. By 2031, the total regional power capacity is expected to reach 3,824 MW, covering an estimated 14.45 million square feet of facility area.
