Elon Musk Targets Anne Hathaway in Escalating ‘Odyssey’ Feud

A 2018 speech by Anne Hathaway advocating for LGBTQ+ rights has become the latest flashpoint in Elon Musk’s public campaign against Christopher Nolan’s adaptation of The Odyssey. After the clip resurfaced on X, Musk dismissed the actress as a “marionette,” intensifying his critique of the film’s casting and creative direction.

The tech billionaire’s attack on Hathaway follows his vow to produce a “historically accurate” version of Homer’s epic using his AI agent, Grok, by the end of 2026. Musk previously aligned himself with critics who slammed the casting of Lupita Nyong’o as Helen of Troy, suggesting the director’s choices were driven by Academy Award diversity quotas rather than artistic intent. Hathaway, who spoke at the 2018 Human Rights Campaign National Dinner about systemic privilege, has not responded to the fresh wave of scrutiny.

Nyong’o has remained defiant regarding the backlash, asserting that her performance focuses on the depth of the character rather than superficial standards of beauty. Meanwhile, the project has drawn mockery from industry figures like Colman Domingo. During a guest appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Domingo ridiculed Musk’s pursuit of historical accuracy, questioning the entrepreneur’s priorities and suggesting the term serves as a proxy for exclusionary casting practices. As Musk pushes forward with his AI-generated alternative, the debate over creative license and representation in modern adaptations continues to deepen.
