The project targets a critical gap in the domestic supply chain, as heavy rare earth elements are required to improve the heat resistance and efficiency of modern electric motors. By adding specialized circuits to its existing facility, Energy Fuels aims to process monazite concentrates into magnet-ready materials. The initial phase, focused on terbium and dysprosium, is slated for completion by the end of 2027, with additional circuits for samarium, europium, and gadolinium expected to follow in 2028.
Securing this infrastructure requires an estimated capital expenditure of $104 million. The company plans to leverage a combination of working capital and conditional U.S. government loan commitments to finance the build. This development is designed to feed into the company's broader "mine-to-magnet" strategy, which hinges on the pending acquisitions of Australian Strategic Materials and Vacuumschmelze. Once fully operational, the integrated platform aims to supply enough magnet material to support the production of millions of electric vehicles and wind turbines annually, reducing reliance on overseas processing.
