The Akron-based utility is seeing a transformation in its service territory, particularly in West Virginia, where power demand has spiked 137% to 4.3 GW. This growth trajectory underpins the company’s decision to maintain its 2026 core earnings guidance of $2.62 to $2.82 per share. CEO Brian X. Tierney pointed to disciplined execution of the $36 billion Energize365 capital investment program as the primary driver for meeting these targets, noting that the firm is on track to hit the top end of its 6% to 8% annual growth rate through 2030.
Financial performance remained consistent despite higher maintenance expenses in the distribution segment. The company successfully deployed $2.9 billion in capital investments during the first half of the year, focusing on grid modernization and transmission reliability. With contracted data center demand now reaching 6.4 GW, FirstEnergy is actively evaluating further generation and infrastructure investments to accommodate the scaling load, signaling a strategic pivot toward aggressive long-term capacity expansion.
