Courtney Stodden Addresses Domestic Incident and Past Trauma

“I’m okay and taking things one day at a time,” Courtney Stodden said, breaking their silence following a late-night police welfare check at the Los Angeles home they share with husband Jared Safier. The reality star is now seeking to move forward while addressing the long-term impact of early-life trauma.

The 911 call occurred around 1:45 a.m. on July 9, drawing LAPD officers to the residence after a heated verbal argument between the couple. Authorities determined the dispute remained non-physical, resulting in no arrests or criminal charges. In the wake of the incident, Stodden posted cryptic messages on social media regarding the nature of marriage and the concept of reactive abuse, which fueled intense public speculation about their relationship status.

Stodden attributes these current struggles in part to the lasting effects of their 2011 marriage to actor Doug Hutchison, which occurred when Stodden was 16 and Hutchison was 50. Reflecting on this history, Stodden noted that childhood trauma continues to echo through their adult life and relationships. Concurrent with the domestic situation, a 2012 comedy sketch featuring actor Jason Alexander resurfaced, showing an inappropriate encounter from when Stodden was 17. Alexander has since issued a public apology, which Stodden acknowledged as a positive step. However, Stodden challenged the actor to translate that regret into tangible support for California bill AB 1267, which aims to ban child marriage, and to donate to the nonprofit organization Unchained At Last.
