The two actors maintained a friendship that spanned decades, reuniting publicly as recently as 2019 for a panel discussion on Big Little Lies. In a statement provided to The Sydney Morning Herald, Kidman expressed her profound grief, describing Neill as a joyful, intelligent presence whose kindness left a lasting impact on her life. She extended her support to his family as they navigate the loss.
Neill’s family confirmed his passing in a social media post, noting he died surrounded by loved ones at St Vincent’s Private Hospital. While the family described the death as sudden and unexpected, they expressed gratitude that he had been cancer-free in his final months. The actor had previously shared his battle with Stage 3 angioimmunoblastic T-cell lymphoma in his 2023 memoir, Did I Ever Tell You This. Although he faced aggressive treatments, he told 7News in April that recent scans showed no signs of the disease. Beyond his acclaimed performance as Alan Grant in Jurassic Park, Neill leaves behind a legacy of work that reached audiences across generations, from his early 1970s roots to his later appearances in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
