The Military Child Education Coalition, known for its Student 2 Student model, provides essential resources to help families navigate the frequent relocations inherent in military life. Mary Bier, the organization's president and CEO, noted that the grant acts as a foundational investment for children who move six to nine times during their K-12 education. By leveraging faculty-advised, student-led groups, the program aims to mitigate the social and academic gaps often created by these transitions.
Beyond the primary grant, the foundation distributed $25,000 to five additional nonprofits: BetterALife, Camp Twin Lakes, Children's Assistive Technology Service, GirlUp GVL, and Lucky Orphans Horse Rescue. Since its founding in 2007, the CAPTRUST Community Foundation has directed more than $10 million toward charitable initiatives, largely funded through voluntary employee payroll deductions matched by the firm. Heather Shanahan, president of the foundation, emphasized that the selection reflects a commitment to supporting the entire network surrounding military families.
