Evri sues BBC for £1.2 million over Panorama delivery investigation

Parcel delivery firm Evri has launched a High Court battle against the BBC, seeking £1.2 million in damages over a Panorama documentary that alleged the company utilized exploitative labor practices. The broadcaster’s investigation, which remains online, sparked the legal claim after Evri cited significant financial losses and lost contracts.

In legal documents filed with the High Court, Evri contends that the programme contained libellous claims, specifically arguing that the BBC wrongly suggested the company misled a parliamentary committee regarding courier pay. The firm maintains that its delivery staff consistently earn above the national minimum wage and characterizes its operations as reliable and cost-effective. Beyond the financial damages, the company is pursuing an injunction to prevent the BBC from repeating the allegations.

The BBC has yet to file a formal defence and has declined to comment on the ongoing litigation. No date has been set for a hearing, leaving the broadcasted claims under legal scrutiny as both parties prepare their respective positions. The dispute centers on whether the documentary’s depiction of working pressures and courier compensation accurately reflected Evri’s business model.
