U.S. Customs to Auction 12,000 Tons of Seized Aluminum

A massive stockpile of 12,000 tons of seized aluminum is headed for the auction block on July 23, 2026, in Riverside, California. The sale marks the final liquidation of a 2017 forfeiture, clearing out over 24 million pounds of high-grade alloy stored in 623 shipping containers.

The inventory, held at the Amentum Consolidated Storage Facility, consists of 161,409 non-functional pallets. Independent laboratory testing confirms the material is primarily 6000-series high-grade aluminum alloy with a fraction of A356 alloy, making it suitable for industrial recycling in the aerospace, automotive, and construction sectors.

Prospective buyers must navigate a strict vetting process to participate in the event, which is limited to CBP-approved entities. A refundable $100,000 earnest-money deposit is mandatory, and those interested in inspecting the goods can book appointments on July 8, 15, or 22 through CWS Marketing Group. The auction will be held live, with digital bidding options available for remote participants. This liquidation serves to funnel proceeds back into federal law enforcement and victim assistance programs while diverting the metal into a circular economy that consumes 95 percent less energy than primary aluminum production.
