Gene Messer Chevrolet Rebrands as Group 1 Chevrolet Hub City

The Lubbock-based dealership, formerly known as Gene Messer Chevrolet, is shedding its legacy identity to align with the nationwide branding of its parent company, Group 1 Automotive. This transition, finalized on April 9, 2026, marks a shift toward a unified retail structure across the company’s extensive U.S. network.

The rebranding effort does not signal a change in ownership, staffing, or day-to-day operations. For the local community, the shift is primarily cosmetic, intended to provide customers with a clearer link to the resources and technology of the Houston-based automotive retailer. The dealership, located at 1302 South Loop 289, maintains the same team that has served West Texas for nearly two decades.

General Manager Michael Wims noted that while the signage has changed, the core commitment to local service remains the priority. By integrating into the Group 1 brand, the dealership aims to standardize the customer experience, offering consistent, transparent pricing and service protocols found across the group's 250 locations. This move allows the Lubbock site to leverage the scale of an international retailer while keeping the local relationships that defined its predecessor.
