Portnoy writes that the partnership with hosts Alex Cooper and Sofia Franklyn appeared stable until they appeared on Logan Paul’s podcast in April 2019. He claims that conversation planted doubts, prompting the duo to hire legal counsel and demand $1 million annual salaries, ownership of their intellectual property, and a 90 percent cut of merchandise revenue. As production stalled, Portnoy attempted to resolve the impasse on his apartment rooftop, offering what he described as the most generous deal in Barstool history.
The standoff took a darker turn, according to the memoir, when Cooper allegedly met with Portnoy privately. Portnoy claims Cooper admitted she wanted the deal but stated Franklyn would reject it. More explosive, however, is Portnoy’s allegation that the hosts discussed falsely accusing the company of sexual harassment to void their contracts if their demands were not met. Portnoy argues that given his company’s controversial history, he would have struggled to defend himself in the court of public opinion regardless of the truth. While Franklyn has previously denied the involvement of her then-partner Peter Nelson in these negotiations, Portnoy remains firm in his account, labeling Franklyn a liar ahead of her own upcoming memoir.
