Talia Sporkin Wins Zebra Pen’s Third Annual Songwriting Sweepstakes

After placing as a runner-up in last year’s competition, Maryland-born singer-songwriter Talia Sporkin has secured the $5,000 grand prize in Zebra Pen’s #PathToSelfExpression contest. The Berklee College of Music graduate beat out a national field to earn the top honor in the company's annual celebration of lyrical storytelling.

Sporkin, whose work blends pop, country, and folk influences, has already garnered significant industry attention with over 340,000 global streams and features in TIME Magazine. Her victory marks a successful return to the sweepstakes, which encourages emerging artists to share original lyrics via video entries on social media platforms. Zebra Pen Director of Marketing Ken Newman described the win as a full-circle moment for the program, noting that the artist's persistence in the face of previous near-misses resonated with the company's commitment to creative development.

Alongside the grand prize, the competition recognized four additional artists. Journee, a Los Angeles-based R&B singer, and Eloise Alterman, known for her cinematic approach to vulnerability, joined New York composer Lizzy Hilliard and Nashville Americana artist Hannah Mello as runner-up winners. Each of these four recipients received $250 and a collection of Zebra Pen products. Since its launch in 2024, the initiative has served as a consistent platform for independent musicians to gain exposure and financial support for their craft.
