The partnership, which emerged as the winner of Iberdrola’s PERSEO open innovation challenge, begins with a 12-month pilot project in Spain. By leveraging ICEYE’s satellite constellation, the utility gains the ability to monitor infrastructure through thick smoke and storm clouds, overcoming the limitations of traditional optical imaging. The system provides immediate damage assessments, allowing network managers to prioritize repair teams for the most critical infrastructure failures following natural disasters.
Beyond the Spanish pilot, the collaboration has a global reach. ICEYE will deploy its Hurricane Rapid Impact solution to protect Iberdrola’s assets in the United States and Australia, delivering heatmaps within 24 hours of landfall. This shift toward proactive, satellite-driven resilience is designed to reduce outage times for millions of customers. As Gonzalo García-Muñoz of ICEYE Spain noted, the goal is to move from reactive maintenance to an integrated model where satellite intelligence dictates operational decisions in the immediate aftermath of extreme events.
