The initiative leverages ICEYE’s satellite constellation to provide near real-time geospatial intelligence, allowing utility managers to monitor assets through dense smoke and storm clouds. By deploying the Flood Solutions Suite, the company gains the ability to forecast flood risks and measure water depth at individual infrastructure sites, enabling more precise deployment of repair crews during emergencies.
Beyond the Spanish pilot, the agreement addresses Iberdrola’s extensive global footprint, which spans over 1.4 million kilometers of transmission lines. The utility will utilize ICEYE's Hurricane Rapid Impact solution to monitor assets in the United States and Australia, providing heatmaps within 24 hours of extreme weather landfalls. Gonzalo García-Muñoz, SVP of Global Operations at ICEYE, noted that the integration of satellite data is intended to shift network management toward a proactive stance, accelerating supply restoration after disasters. This multi-peril approach aims to strengthen grid resilience for the group, which serves more than 100 million customers worldwide.
