Jodie Sweetin on the dark side of teenage stardom

Before she was a household name, Jodie Sweetin was a high schooler fighting a reputation she never asked for. To shed the label of a "stuck-up" TV star, the former Full House actress resorted to self-destructive behavior, intentionally pushing boundaries to prove she could be just as reckless as her peers.

On the Inside of You podcast, the 44-year-old actress revealed that the assumption of arrogance followed her into school. Fearing her classmates viewed her as a cold celebrity, she sought acceptance through substance abuse. Sweetin admitted she felt pressured to be worse than her classmates, leading to a cycle of heavy drug and alcohol use that began as early as age 14 at Candace Cameron Bure’s wedding.

Her struggles mirrored the quiet battles of her co-stars. Bure has since spoken openly about her own long-term fight with bulimia, which she attributed to the intense pressure to maintain a certain body image for producers. While Sweetin sought to blend in through rebellion, Bure grappled with the restrictive environment of the set, highlighting the lasting psychological toll of growing up in the public eye.
