Minnesota: Land of Neighbors Launches Effort to Bridge State Divides

Tired of the relentless cycle of outrage and political polarization, a new coalition is betting that Minnesotans still share more common ground than they realize. The newly launched Minnesota: Land of Neighbors campaign aims to move beyond superficial debate by facilitating honest, face-to-face dialogue across ideological and geographic lines.

The multi-year project, supported by a consortium of major state foundations, focuses on hosting listening sessions throughout the region to identify shared values. Organizers emphasize that the goal is not to erase political or personal disagreements, but to rebuild a sense of civic trust that has eroded in recent years.

"We come from different places, have different beliefs and see the world differently," said Bill Doherty, co-founder of Braver Angels and a key organizer for the initiative. "This isn't about pretending differences don't exist; it is about exploring where we have common ground and where we can start to take action together." The campaign, which includes backing from the Bush, McKnight, and Saint Paul & Minnesota foundations, plans to leverage both digital feedback loops and community gatherings to design collaborative projects that address local concerns.
